Impact of tetrabutylammonium bromide-based deep eutectic solvent on the kinetic hydrate inhibition of methane hydrate
Abstract
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are evolving as a new-age inhibitor of gas hydrate (GH) formation. Tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), an ethylene glycol-based DES, has been investigated as a novel kinetic hydrate inhibitor for methane (CH 4 ) hydrate buildup. The kinetics of the buildup of CH 4 hydrate is carried out at 274.15 K and 8 MPa, with an aqueous solution of DES at 3.0 wt% concentration. The governing interactions of DES formation play a dominant role, which completely changes the chemical behavior of the system further delaying the buildup of hydrate. Finally, the GH buildup rate, the consumption of CH 4 in hydrate and the conversion rates are estimated. The induction time as well as formation rate of hydrates are increased using DES.
