Abstract

This chapter explores the application of Multi-Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) in the oil and gas industry, focusing on its role in improving decision-making processes in high-risk environments with substantial capital investments. It presents a structured framework for evaluating multiple criteria to optimize operations in inspection, maintenance, and asset management. Key methodologies and practices, including the integration of MADM into asset integrity management, are discussed to show its value in balancing factors such as safety, cost, and efficiency. The chapter outlines two main approaches: optimizing decision-making for capital equipment and a generic optimization framework applicable to commonly used equipment types. Mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment are examined to illustrate the versatility and effectiveness of MADM applications. By utilizing MADM, the chapter provides insights into optimizing inspection schedules and methods to improve operational safety and efficiency while reducing costs, thereby offering a comprehensive approach to decision-making in this complex industrial sector.
