Abstract

Another way for tonic spiking to be born or die is through a process in which the period tends to infinity. This chapter describes this process with a discussion of saddle-node on invariant circle (SNIC) and homoclinic bifurcations. Though the phenomenon sounds esoteric, these bifurcations are ubiquitous in neural systems.
