Abstract

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in gastroenterology has demonstrated transformative potential, improving diagnostic accuracy, enhancing therapeutic outcomes, and personalizing patient care. This study explores various domains within gastroenterology where AI is being integrated, including endoscopic advancements, disease prediction, and management, as well as the processing of large-scale healthcare data. We systematically review current AI technologies such as machine learning algorithms and deep learning frameworks applied to gastrointestinal imaging, pathology, and genomics. The accuracy of AI systems in detecting and diagnosing conditions such as colorectal cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and inflammatory bowel disease, among others, is highlighted through comparisons with traditional diagnostic methods. Furthermore, the study delves into the role of AI in improving the efficiency of endoscopic procedures through automated lesion detection, characterization, and even robotic assistance. Challenges pertaining to AI integration in clinical practice are discussed, including data privacy, algorithmic transparency, need for robust validation frameworks, and the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure ethical deployment. Future perspectives focus on potential innovations and the expansion of AI applications into personalized treatment plans and real-time decision support systems. The study concludes with recommendations for overcoming current barriers and enhancing the symbiosis between AI technologies and gastroenterological healthcare practices.
