Abstract

This book chapter explores the possibilities and challenges of preserving privacy in the era of blockchain and IoT integration. The advantages of using blockchain technology for storing and managing sensitive data in a decentralized manner are discussed, along with the potential privacy issues that arise from the massive amounts of data generated by IoT devices. The challenges of combining blockchain and IoT are highlighted, including the complexities of data governance and privacy laws in a decentralized environment. The need for more research and development in areas such as privacy-preserving mechanisms, governance and regulatory frameworks, and social and ethical implications of blockchain and IoT integration is emphasized. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the importance of carefully weighing the risks and benefits of using blockchain and IoT in any given context, and the need to continue researching and developing privacy-enhancing technologies for their effective use in blockchain-based IoT systems.
