Abstract

Between 1960 and 1975 several reviews appeared on the sweat glands in man and other species (e.g. Weiner and Hellmann, 1960; Jenkinson, 1973; Montagna and Parakkal, 1974). As the sweat gland plays an important role in thermoregulatory processes in man, it is not surprising that the main aim of these reviews was directed to a discussion of the sweat gland in terms of a functioning entity. Although various studies on sweat gland counts have recently been published, determination of total maximum number and regional distribution of the eccrine sweat glands has received relatively little attention.
