Abstract

This paper is concerned with a number of factors which determine the extent of the inter- and intra-population variability in the sweat output under conditions of heat load. Of the population variability observed, it will be shown that a portion is a direct consequence of the test procedure itself, that some of the variability reflects differences in body size of the subjects and some is attributable to the subjects’ differing history of heat exposure. Finally to be considered is the extent to which genetic differences may also enter into the observed variability.
