Abstract

Burns are one of the most prevalent causes of disability, resulting in over 8 million disability-adjusted life years worldwide. Some countries bear a disproportionate amount of the cost of burns. In South Asian countries, there is a tendency for burn wounds to spike during the annual celebration of Diwali, which takes place in October or November. India’s predicament is very concerning. In 2019, an estimated 23,000 fatalities occurred in India due to fires, accounting for nearly 20% of the world’s fatality load. On an annual basis, around 173,000 children in Bangladesh suffer from minor to serious burns. A total of 18% of youngsters with burns in Bangladesh, Colombia, Egypt, and Pakistan have a lifelong disability, whereas 17% have an interim one. Moreover, 5% of disability associated with rural Nepal are caused by burns, making them the next most prevalent injury [ Keshri et al. , 2022 ].
