Bibliometric Analysis of Green IT: Themes, Trends, Facilitators, and Inhibitors
Abstract
Green IT stands at the forefront of sustainable technology, promoting environmentally responsible practices within the IT industry. By emphasizing energy efficiency, recycling, responsible procurement, and embracing digital transformation, Green IT mitigates the environmental impact of technology and offers various tangible and non-tangible benefits to the businesses as well as the society. As we continue to prioritize sustainability, the integration of Green IT becomes an essential step in building a more ecologically balanced and a prosperous digital world. With this intent, a bibliometric analysis has been performed using VOS Viewer to provide an insight into the current themes, trends, facilitators, and inhibitors of Green IT. The articles of Green IT/IS were queried from the Scopus database in May 2023. From an initial list of 586 articles, a total of 225 articles have been selected after elimination of duplicates, relevance of the title and abstract to the area of interest for further analysis. The publication output has been analysed year wise and categorized based on the type of document (article/review/book chapter) using keywords as well as publisher wise. A bibliometric coupling analysis has been performed based on the country, authors and by journals/source. The top 20 journals/sources with the highest number of citations have been identified. A bibliometric analysis of co-citation based on cited references, and cited authors has also been performed. The themes and trend topics have been identified. A model with the facilitators, inhibitors and outcomes of Green IT has also been proposed.
