Do Resilient Migrants with Cultural Intelligence Tackle Acculturative Stress?
Abstract
International migration poses several challenges. Of these, acculturative stress is perhaps the most significant on account of its negative impact on organizational outcomes. Individual differences perhaps best answer the question of how migrants cope with acculturative stress. In this paper, we study how two key individual differences resilience and cultural intelligence differentiate the reactivity to acculturative stress. The sample consist of 338 Indian migrant employees to the US, UK, and UAE. Our study concludes that resilience does not enable a migrant to tackle acculturative stress entirely. However, along with higher levels of cultural intelligence migrants can successfully adapt in culturally diverse environment. The implications for practitioners are discussed.
