Bioinformatics
Abstract
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary science that merges biology, computer science, mathematics, and statistics to manage, analyze, and interpret biological data. It emerged as a critical field in the late 20th century, particularly during the Human Genome Project, which generated an unprecedented amount of genomic data requiring sophisticated computational tools for its analysis. Today, bioinformatics has expanded far beyond genomics, playing a pivotal role in proteomics, transcriptomics, systems biology, and more. The field leverages computational algorithms, machine learning, and vast biological databases to address complex biological questions, ranging from understanding molecular mechanisms to discovering new therapeutic targets.
