Molecular Mapping and Tagging of Agronomically Important Traits
Abstract
Molecular mapping and tagging of agronomically important traits involve identifying specific genomic regions or loci associated with traits of interest in crops and livestock. This process combines molecular markers and advanced statistical tools to locate quantitative trait loci (QTLs) or genes controlling traits such as yield, disease resistance, drought tolerance, and nutritional quality. These efforts are fundamental to modern breeding programs, enabling marker-assisted selection (MAS), genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and genomic selection (GS).
