Abstract

This article presents the main points of the ESERA Summerschool workshop “First Steps in Qualitative Video-Analysis Applied to Classroom Studies”. Video-analysis can be considered as a demanding research method, which has to obey special standards in order to be sufficiently reliable and valid. Step-by-step instructions show how to develop a so-called coding scheme that comprises the categories, rules and indicators necessary for transforming qualitative observations into quantitative data. Finally a short guideline for dealing with reliability measures is given, which also contains some technical aspects such as camera position and main focus.
