Study on shell models validity according to geometrical parameters
Abstract
This work deals with a geometrical parametric study performed on a refined shell model. Its use limitations under geometrical considerations are especially analysed. In this paper, full strain field for a general doubly curved shell is first elaborated from a refined displacement field. Next, several simplified models are deduced from the full strain field including geometrical hypothesis: deep or shallow shell, thin or thick shell are then considered varying R/a (radius over curved length) and R/e (radius over thickness) ratios. Relevance of each model is finally evaluated on the Ren cylindrical panel test.
