Abstract

We present a shell model based on hierarchical shell kinematics and equipped with a wavelet-based preintegration of the stresses. Due to its properties the model permits the use of general three-dimensional material laws and, particularly, inelastic laws based on generalized standard media. The proposed hierarchical integration scheme is intrinsically adaptive and very simple error estimates can be derived. Numerical examples involving damage processes are presented to illustrate the performance of the integration scheme as well as the shell model.
