Analysis of floating plates under dynamic loads
Abstract
Floating plates under dynamic load are analysed. The motivation is the dynamics of ice plates or floating pontoons, which may serve as floating runways. The boundary element method is used. The linear Reissner model of the floating plate is considered. The reciprocity theorem is used to formulate the boundary integral equation. The plate boundary is discretized with constant type boundary elements. The liquid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible. The hydrodynamic pressure is described by another boundary integral equation. Discretization of this equation yields the liquid mass matrix, which is added to the diagonal mass matrix of the plate. Hydrostatic lift is modelled by analogy to forces of the Winkler foundation. Having found the natural frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes, the numerical analysis of the forced vibrations of the plate is performed. To this end, the modal analysis and the Newmark method are used. Numerical results are presented.
