The temporal variation of evaporation from the Sudd wetland and its biophysical and hydrological interpretation
Abstract
Wetlands are distinct parts of the earth&s;s ecosystem characterized by the absence of water constraints and rieb flora and fauna. Wetlands have many beneficial functions: among others they provide: (i) flood mitigation, (ii) storage, (iii) groundwater recharge, (iv) a bird and wild life habitat, and (v) carbon sequestration, to mention a few. Globally, wetlands vary in size from the huge Russian wetlands (nearly 1 million km 2 ) to the small natural and man made wetlands of a few km 2 . The Sudd (38,500 km 2 ) is one of the largest wetlands in Africa.
