Options for short-cutting the P-Cycle
Abstract
The difficulty of guaranteeing the quality of wastewater effluent and sludge, and the limited possibilities to recycle nutrients such as P within the traditional end-of-pipe waterborne system could be regarded as incitements to develop localised source separation systems (refer to Bellagio Principles in Chapter 1 ), i.e. systems designed to separate different waste fluxes such as faeces, urine, biodegradable organic waste, rain water and grey water ( Van der Ryn, 1995 ; Hellstrom, 1998 ).
