Abstract

The paper presents the main characteristics of the inter-plate, inland and intra-slab earthquakes, influencing the structural responses. The structures have different responses in function of these earthquake types. The inter-plate earthquakes, are characterized by long period velocity pulses. For inland earthquakes, the uncertainties in the fault places and the great influence of superior vibration modes on the structural response are the main aspects, which must be considered in design. In case of in-slab earthquakes, the design must considers the long duration, the large number of yield reversals, and the great influence of traveling path and site soil conditions.
