Abstract

Steel shear walls has been extensively used as a lateral force bearing system in the design of new and retrofitting of existing structures. Seismic response evaluation of steel shear walls has been studied extensively during last decades. In this research, the effect of several parameters on Seismic behavior of Steel Plate Shear Walls has been considered. Several multistory buildings were designed and pushover analysis was conducted on the models. It seems that SSW design method - suggested by Canadian standard - is not in accordance with our research result. As a result, in design of other buildings, total model has been used. After analyzing the models, it has been shown that the type of Beam-Column connection in the bay that SSW is present has no effect on structures behavior. Finally, for this dual system (Moment frame with SSW), a behavior coefficient equivalent with a moment frame plus eccentric bracing (R = 10) is suggested.
