Abstract

The seismic response of eccentrically braced frames designed by either static or modal analyses and in accordance with the capacity design criterion is often characterized by moderate values of the mean plastic rotations of links. In order to improve such behavior, a new procedure able to properly design moment resisting sub-structures belonging to the same system is presented here. The design procedure of the investigated dual eccentrically braced structure is based on elastic static and modal analyses only. The reliability of the design procedure is verified with reference to systems characterized by a number of levels ranging from four to twelve and endowed with either short or long links.
