Abstract

For applications inhot and aggressive environments the usage of NR-elastomers is limited. These elastomers would reach only poor durability. One possibility to improve the fatigue behaviour under mentioned application circumstances may be the replacement of NR-elastomers with EPDM-elastomers. Especially for applications to insulate vibrations the basic knowledge of the mechanical properties of EPDM are partly unknown, there are only first basic works about fatigue tests are available in literature. To estimate about the performance, properties, usage possibilities and limits of these elastomers, it is necessary to make investigations about the temperature dependence. This presentation illustrates the results of numerous basic mechanical experiments with waisted rotational symmetric specimens are presented. Results of creep tests at different temperatures show the behaviour under static loads. The performance of the material for new applications with cyclic loads and preloads was investigated with fatigue tests. Finally these results were compared with typical results measured with NR.
