Investigation of Flow Systems
Abstract
Understanding the hydrological flow systems in the Makanya catchment is important for predicting the impact of smallholder system innovations on the local hydrology. In Chapter 2 , it has been mentioned that the geology plays a dominant role. Several techniques have been used to determine the dominant flow paths in the Makanya catchment. Geological mapping confirms the occurrence of different springs in the catchment. Hydro-chemical mapping of the springs is used to confirm the hypothesis of the flow paths, and ERT analysis to assess the locations of the saturated zone. Base flow fluctuations observed in a headwater catchment have been analysed.
