Abstract

In the previous chapters, different methods for placing monitor devices were developed and tested in the polder system of Pijnacker, described in Chapter 3 and in the river Magdalena, described in Chapter 4 . In Chapter 5 the use of Information Theory concepts was explored in order to maximise the information content about the particular water system. A complementary method that takes into account the subjective beliefs of a decision maker in getting information is presented in Chapter 6 with the maximisation of the Value of Information. The present chapter explores other methodologies to obtain a reliable idea of the state of a water system through public data collection and model validation, which, in turn, looks for an incremental increase in the information content of our water systems.
