Abstract

There has been a number of error taxonomy systems developed not only in healthcare but also in other domains primarily for the purpose of making incident statistics to identify their characteristics. Most of these systems are general type of taxonomy which covers all events in a domain under study like WHO Taxonomy, and therefore application results of such a taxonomy system are likely to be broad but rather obscure. On the contrary, an error taxonomy which focuses on a narrow, specific clinical field can be expected to acquire more concrete, in-depth and insightful information by its application to actual incident cases, e.g., critical risk factors and more specific lessons learnt.
