Abstract

Computer Decision Support Tools in healthcare (CDST) can augment clinical decision making and are a potential solution to improve adherence to national guidelines (Lobach & Hammond, 1997; Payne, 2000) CDST&s;s have been found to improve measures of clinician performance in the diagnosis (Holt, et al., 2010; Pozen, D&s;Agostino, Selker, Sytkowski & Hood, 1984; Selker, et al., 1998), prevention (Burack, et al., 1996) and management (Demakis, et al., 2000) of a number of different disease entities. Many barriers though, remain to successful CDST implementation (Payne, 2000). While several CDST&s;s exist, most have been unsuccessfully implemented in clinical practice, with predictors of success and lack of success well documented (Payne, 2000).
