Abstract

The forgotten sponges are a persistent problem despite standardized procedures for prevention universally adopted. Our previous study, as other reports in the literature showed that the manual counting of the sponges is a procedure inclined to error due to the physiological limits of human cognitive processes. Since cognitive processes are not modifiable, a solution to this problem is from assistance technology that can improve the preventive measures commonly used in the counting of sponges.
