Abstract

Different countries of the world have developed various pregnancy risk classification systems. Classifications are of embryo (feto) toxicological nature. The category doesn&s;t reflect: dose, condition, trimester of the pregnancy, interaction and other parameters and criteria required for safe management of the disease in pregnancy. Besides, in different countries there are differences between the views of drug regulatory structures. For example, from 21 antiepileptic medications US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Australian Drug Evaluation Committee (ADEC) define only 5 medications (24%) in the same risk categories in both countries. Categories of 6 medications are not defined in any country (29%), and risks related to 10 (48%) medications are absolutely differently assessed.
