Surgical checklist: Why the surgical team don't like it?
Abstract
In order to improve patient safety the World Health Organization introduced in June 2008 a Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) to ensure basic minimum standards for reducing surgical complications and deaths. The surgical safety checklist is a tool to improve the communication among the health care team (nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and others), it is used in three key stages where mistakes are known to happen: before anaesthesia induction, before skin incision and before patient leaving the surgical area.
