Abstract

Speaking at the Connecticut Library Association&s;s 2005 annual conference on the new role of technical services in libraries, William M. Wakeling, associate dean of Collections and Technical Services at Northeastern University, noted that the management of e-resources is challenging technical services departments to alter workflows and job responsibilities in order to adapt to a new paradigm. In her report of this conference program for Connecticut Libraries, Hing Wu of Southern Connecticut State University, summarized Wakeling&s;s remarks thusly: As library holdings rapidly evolve into a hybrid print/non-print collection, the bibliographic control and acquisition activities of TS (technical services) are steadily replaced by the managing of electronic resources. Now is the moment to shed the “library housekeeping” image, Mr. Wakeling declared; instead, TS professionals should take on the challenges of electronic resources management and the efficient delivery of e-resources. 1
