Abstract

In recent years, there have been rapid developments in capillary electrophoresis (CE) as an analytical technique [ 1 — 7 ]. The popularity for the use of CE in the pharmaceutical field has been accelerated by its simplicity, high efficiency and selectivity, large separatory capacity, and its relatively lower operational cost. The basic components of a CE system are shown in Fig. 1 . The capillary containing the running electrolyte is suspended between two buffer reservoirs. The sample solution containing a mixture of analytes is introduced from one end of the capillary. The analytes, which migrate at different velocities toward the other end of the capillary, are separated. A detection system is employed for the identification and quantification of the separated species.
