Abstract

A data warehouse is an extension of the database management system (DBMS), which consolidates information from various sources into a high-level, integrated form used to identify trends and make business decisions. For a large company, the amount of information in a data warehouse could be up to several trillion bytes, or terabytes (TB). The technologies that are used to build data warehouses include relational databases; powerful, scalable processors; and sophisticated tools to manipulate and analyze large volumes of data and identify previously undetectable patterns and relationships.
