Abstract

The growth in the use of communications now provides endusers with the ability to perform a variety of functions that just a few years were unimaginable. Today, users can avail themselves of CompuServe, Prodigy, or the services of numerous Internet access providers, to order books, CDs, and even automobiles electronically. Although security has always been a limiting factor, holding end-users back from transmitting credit card information to on-line sales organizations, the use of public key cryptology represents a mechanism that can overcome that limitation.
