Abstract

Whenever information systems professionals think of Year 2000 projects and initiatives, they almost exclusively envision examining, maintaining, and performing testing on applications that are over 10 years old and based on third-generation languages such as COBOL, FORTRAN, and PL1. The potential vulnerability of recently designed and constructed client/server database systems is usually never considered. Based on observations taken over the past few years and on work performed in the past 18 months, the assumption that these systems are millennium compliant could prove unwise and be a precursor to a flood of problems when that time arrives.
