Measuring Program Performance
Abstract
Program performance is often considered synonymous with the speed with which a program solves a specific problem. The speed, in turn, is influenced by a number of factors, some of which are programmer controlled and others that are dependent on the hardware and software environment of the program’s execution. Whereas tuning all programs for performance efficiency may not be necessary, some programs do exist that are “critical,” and such tuning is essential.
