Abstract

The advent of client-server processing and the growth in the use of open-system technology resulted in most data centers using a wide mixture of hardware and software products. This, in turn, resulted in a dramatic change in the scope and depth of employee training requirements, as well as in options available to the data center operations manager (DCOM) to satisfy those requirements. By understanding the advantages and disadvantages associated with different training options, the DCOM can construct a training program that is best structured to meet the needs of the organization in a cost-effective manner. The objective of this article is to provide the DCOM with detailed information concerning viable training options that should be considered.
