Abstract

In light of the recent development of federal underground storage tank regulations and technical requirements, a survey was conducted for the purpose of determining the current state of research and regulatory approach of state agencies with respect to site identification and remediation of petroleum contaminated soils (PCS). The objective of this survey was to provide researchers, state regulators, and other interested parties with a comprehensive summary of approaches and technologies currently in use in dealing with cleanup of PCS. This survey also serves to update and supplement a similar survey conducted by the University of Massachusetts Environmental and Health Science Department in 1984 and 1985.
