Abstract

The goals for site cleanup at hazardous waste sites can be quite varied. These goals can range from complete cleanup and site restoration of the environment, along with controlling offsite migration of contaminants, all the way to minimal actions focusing on monitoring the dissipation of contaminants. In order to achieve the goals for a particular site cleanup, the engineering team requires data with which to identify remedial alternatives, assess risks, compare these risks and alternatives against ideal situations and to each other, and, not least of all, to evaluate the costs that would be involved with site actions.
