Using Soil Vapor Contaminant Assessment at Hydrocarbon Contaminated Sites
Abstract
When a nonaqueous phase liquid (NAPL) which is less dense than water leaks from an underground storage tank, the liquid migrates vertically downward under the influence of gravitational and capillary forces until it reaches an impermeable barrier or the groundwater table, where it begins to spread laterally as a function of the topographic or hydraulic gradient.
