Abstract

The insurance industry has for many years protected society from the risks associated with both everyday activities and extraordinary events. In recent years, the accountability of individuals and corporations for the consequences of their actions has increased, challenging the insurance industry to create greater capacity while simultaneously reducing the risks of catastrophic loss. The threat to the environment has become one of society’s greatest challenges, and once again legislators as seen in this year’s political process, have turned to the insurance industry for assistance.
