Historical Background
Abstract
The history of irrigation, canal networks, pond digging and water management in Bengal can be divided in four periods, being the Ancient Period, the Medieval Period, the Colonial Period and the Modern Period. A summary of the historical development of the water development in Bangladesh is presented in Table 2.1 , and will described in more detail in the next section. The description is mainly based on the water management related part of the history.
