Abstract

Raman spectroscopy has become widely used in the field of semiconductor physics for studying all types of solid-state excitations (phonons, one-electron excitations, plasmons, polaritons, spin-waves, etc.). This technique is based on the inelastic scattering of light by elementary excitations. In a first-order scattering process, one excitation with wavevector q and frequency ω is either created (Stokes process) or destroyed (anti-Stokes process). Considering Stokes scattering events, the most frequently encountered in experiments, conservation of momentum and energy requires both https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="block"> q = k i − k s
