Optimization of Aromatic Polyester Polyols for Use with 3rd Generation Blowing Agents
Abstract
Polyester polyols are widely used in polyisocyanurate foams, primarily in the construction industry. The historical change from chlorofluorocarbons to HCFC’s required substantial modification of the polyester polyol. With the anticipated change from HCFCs to 3 rd generation blowing agents by 2003, the polyester is once again being modified to provide optimal performance. Foam evaluation methods have been updated and improved to guide optimization of the polyester polyol. These include cell size and size-distribution measurements, flow evaluation, dynamic rheology and flammability.
