Advanced Nonisocyanate Polyurethane Coatings
Abstract
Polyurethane coatings are widely used as decorative and protective ones. Existing polyurethanes have good mechanical properties, especially shock and abrasive resistance, but they are sensible in moisture and one of their components- dior polyisocyanates are toxic and are produced by dangerous technological process. By modifying the structure of the polyurethane matrix polymer, an advanced and promising method of raising hydrolytic stability is introduced and readily displayed in nonisocyanate polyurethane (NIPU)- a modified polyurethane for coating with lower permeability, increased resistance properties and safe fabrication process. The advanced NIPU coatings are formed from tow olygomers, one of them contains terminated cyclocarbonate groups (CC-olygomer), other-terminated primary amines groups. Because of forming an intramolecular bond and blockage of carbonyl oxygen it is considerably lowers the susceptibility of the whole urethane group to hydrolysis. We have elaborated a few technologies for synthesis of CC-olygomers with different structures; that gives us the possibility for preparing coating from high elastic to very hard. CC-olygomers and primary amine olygomers were studied and give us all the needed information for many coating compositions’ preparing according a lot of requests for wide spectrum of industrial, decorative and another types of coatings. The chemical resistance of NIPU coatings is 1.5-2 time greater in comparison with conventional polyurethane coatings of similar structure without intermolecular hydrogen bond. Adding new inorganic powered additives during the fabrication process can increase the chemical resistance of NIPU coatings. These active fillers selectively interact with water and aggressive media (i.e. acid) into durable inorganic adhesive cements. We have presented a the data of long-time corrosion testing of NIPU-coatings.
