Abstract

Insulating foams blown with HFC-245fa use silicone surfactants to control the formation, size and stabilization of cells. The appliance industry is now focusing on the use of HFC-245fa for future applications and therefore, the surfactants that will stabilize the gaseous blowing agent during the initial stages of foaming and resist coalescence during flow. Manufacturing process properties such as bulk flow and physical properties of the foam like thermal performance and dimensional stability can be greatly effected by varying the choice of surfactants. This poster will present data generated from machine evaluations of foams blown with HFC-245fa demonstrating the performance differences of surfactants in a representative formulation.
