Vision
Abstract
Visual sensations are produced when light reaches the internal surface of the eye. Every visual scene contains information that can be described along several independent dimensions or sensory cues. The role of the visual system is to extract biologically relevant cues that allow the observer to initiate an appropriate behavioral response in a particular situation. This task is complicated by several visual factors such as changes in ambient illumination, as well as non-visual factors, such as movement of the eyes, the head, and the body of the observer, displacement of the objects themselves, context variations, etc.
