Helping trainees to develop decision-making skills
Abstract
Decision-making is one of the main non-technical skills of anaesthetists. It is surprising that clinical teaching does not usually include formal instruction about how to make decisions and solve problems. Consultants demonstrate practice, guide trainees through procedures and give mini-tutorials, but they do not often specifically instruct them on how to approach a clinical puzzle.
