Abstract

This paper describes the forward slip phenomenon of tracks. The mechanism of the well-known phenomenon is discussed with real measurement and analytical modeling and simulation. The motion of track shoes of a real heavy tracked vehicle is measured by video motion tracker. As a result, quantitative data of the forward slip is obtained. Displacement of the forward slip is approximately 100mm at no traction condition. And it decreases with increase in traction. The simulation on multi-body dynamics software is carried out at almost same condition of the real measurement. The results of simulation show very similar to the real measurement. By consideration of the both results, it is estimated that the forward slip phenomenon is caused by pitch motion oftrack shoes at approach to ground on leading edge and at departure from ground on trailing edge.
