Abstract

This paper describes the design of an active suspension system for Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) vehicles. The modeling of the AGT vehicles with a steering system and a single axle bogies system is carried out first . The vehicle model includes lateral transition, roll and yaw motion of the vehicle body, front bogie and rear bogie, respectively. Actuator dynamics that produce lateral forces is also considered. H-infinity control theory is used to design the reduced order controller for an active suspension, which has an advantage over designing frequency dependant controllers and on the robustness of the controller. The designed controller is evaluated in a simulation study with a AGT vehicle model from the view point of improving ride quality.
