Mechanics of wave pulse in rock fragmentation
Abstract
An impulse load causing rock fragmentation is in the form of transient stress pulse. Four basic types of these stress wave pulses are rod or bar, plane, spherical, and cylindrical. The derivation of elastic wave equations and examples of wave mechanics for impulsive loading in drilling and conventional blasting were demonstrated. These would gain a better understanding of mechanisms of energy transfer and its application to the wave propagation and to the fractures of rock caused by impacts and explosives.
